Kantakion for St. Bartholomew (Byzantine Chant)

This is being chanted by men now.   I hear bass drone notes that support the melody going above.  The bass notes do change their pitches at times, probably to avoid any dissonances that might otherwise happen from the melody.  It is very powerful and strong, especially at the end as the lower voices join in with the upper voices, doubling them at the octave.  The contrast between Byzantine chant by men and Ambrosian chant by women is pretty pronounced.  The Byzantine almost has a rhythmic pulse in comparison to the Ambrosian non-metric style.    The airy, floaty sound of the women versus the darker haunting tones of the men in the Byzantine.  Both have a unique beauty to them.
