This is a secular song (ballata) about the coming of spring. This recording features a guitar/lute type instrument with a light smattering of tambourine off and on, and flute solo in the middle. The singing is by two female voices, and is more homophonic in texture than polyphonic. Without even knowing the translation one can sense the message of spring time in this up beat and happy sounding song. I wanted to choose something secular since all I had listened to by Landini before was sacred. I think this music evokes a certain feeling of buoyancy and lightness of step that makes it fit for a nice dance piece (it's in three after all).
